Parenting Your Adopted Child: Tweens, Teens & Beyond (An email class): Here’s a course for you, the adoptive parent, which fits into your busy schedule.
Tweens, Teens & Beyond is a six week course involving self-reflection and response writing and focuses on teaching you how to identify and address the issues that your adopted child struggles with. Primary issues of loss, grief, and identity will be examined and explored in depth so that you can better support your adopted child in the transition from child to tween and teen.
The focus of Tweens, Teens & Beyond is to help adoptive parents guide and support their teens as they sort through issues of identity during the important years when the extra layers of being adopted and racial differences add more to the complexity of becoming an adult.
By taking this class you will discover how to help your child deal with issues inherent in adoption that surface during the time of adolescence.

Duration:
Six lessons with six assignments completed in six weeks. *This is an email class. Class work turns around on Wednesdays.
Prerequisites:
This course is for adoptive parents, domestic or international.
You must be able to receive and create Microsoft Word documents to participate in this class.

Judy M. Miller has mentored prospective adoptive and adoptive parents for over a decade about adoption—its joys and issues. She teaches classes on parenting and adoption, adopted children, preparation and adjustment, transracial parenting, infertility and adoption, and parenting tweens and teens who have been adopted. Judy is a member of North American Council on Adoptable Children.
